Greenlab Produces World-Beating 27-ct Lab Diamond
(IDEX Online) – An Indian company has produced what’s being hailed as the world’s biggest polished lab grown diamond.
The marquise step cut 27.27-carat diamond (pictured) was made by Greenlab, in Surat, and certified by the IGI.
It is significantly larger than the previous record holder, a 16.41-carat princess-cut diamond (G/VVS2) produced by Shanghai Zhengshi Technology, in China.
The new 27.27-ct stone, named Om, was made by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), the newer method of producing lab-grown diamonds.
It does not require high pressures like the longer-established HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) process.
The diamond has no color enhancement and is one of three super-size lab growns produced by Greenlab. The others are 20.24-ct and 15.16-ct.
Sanket Patel, partner at Greenlab, said he planned to display all three stones at the forthcoming JCK show.
We have asked IGI for details of color and clarity.
