World’s Thinnest Mechanical Watch – Yours for $1.7m
(IDEX Online) – Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille has launched the world’s thinnest mechanical watch.
It has a profile of just 1.80mm, shaving 0.05mm – about the thickness of a human hair – off the previous record holder, Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Ultra.
The Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari Ultra-Thin is the culmination of countless prototypes and more than 6,000 hours of R&D and laboratory testing, in collaboration with fellow watchmakers Audemars Piguet Le Locle and car makers Ferrari.
They will make a limited edition of 150 watches, crafted from super-strong titanium, with a price tag of $1.73m.
“RM UP-01 Ferrari constitutes a triumph of technical prowess and exemplifies a new approach to watch mechanics in which technicity more than ever dictates aesthetics,” the company said.
